Jacks on the kitchen floor
Mom had the advantage
she could do the splits
I could only try
Casting aluminum stars
silver, purple, red, green
Tossing the red ball
Snatch!
Over the fence!
Double-bounce!
She
ever a child
lesson learned
never drop a star

Oh, my. That last line. That just leaves me breathless. I LOVED jacks. And pickup sticks. Are you old enough to remember those? Probably not. 😉

Snort! Yeah, no, I’m too young to remember those games.

Jilly, this was such a joy to read and took me back many moons to my childhood. I laughed at the line “she could do the splits…” that followed the jacks on the floor. Good times, those.

Thanks! The lesson of not growing up was a signficant one – I wouldn’t have survived college if not for a box crayons and a Winnie-the-Pooh coloring book, either!

I love coloring! If everyone could keep the child in them alive, we wouldn’t be in such a mess. Maybe we should send crayons and coloring books to congress and the White House! And Little Kim.

so sweet. Do kids even play this game any more or know what they are missing?

I suspect not, but that doesn’t stop me from being a child 🙂 Thanks for reading!

This was such fun to read, do they still sell Jacks? I remember my grandmother giving me those silver stars and that little red bouncing ball. Grabbing a fistful always brought a smile.

I imagine they can be had at some place that specializes in ‘antique’ toys. Makes me want to go on a search. Thanks for stopping by!

I vaguely remember playing jacks. It is nice to know that one’s parents play as well.
