She
there in the door
way beyond any other

there are the bar
staking his hero journey

Eyes
scanning the room
she glances over you
smiles
Eyes
watching her move
he follows her with his eyes

You
here on the wall
you see them plotting their moves
die
They
there in the night
picture it all in your mind
cry
You
here in your room
wanting to foil their delight
try
Eyes
turning away
for a watched plot never foils

Oh….this is so well done, Jilly! I love following the plot….the last single italicized word in each stanza….and then the “twist” of the adage in the end! PS: such a great prompt! I really had fun with it. Shall publish now, since yours is already here 🙂

Oh yes… really love how this ended… a good thing when the plot fails just because we observe…

Ah yes, levity & fun for Poetics Tuesday. Your poem is all aces, smoky and Victorian, tinged with melodrama very creative prompt–thanks for hosting

This reminds me of a Taylor Swift song … Of course! Everything does. 🙂

Plots always foil me, watched intently or not. I like the story. You should write the denouement (without looking at it).

It takes a lot of courage or a lot of drinks to become that vulnerable in front of everyone in the bar!

You know what they say, “The (ugly) women all get prettier at closing time!” Great poem.
