O bland Adonis
she fell for his
six-pack abdomis
Movie and dinner
proffered he
with smiles sure
to swoon every she
Milk-toast he
turned out to be
with rippling
curls his brains
unfurled
A second date?
No enspicement
such a flavorless fate
tempted she!

What rollicking great fun. Methinks I’ve met an abdominis Adonis at some time of other!

Maybe he sat too long on the shelf. Or sat open. Funny stuff, and yet poignant when viewed from a certain perspective. Many of us went on that date once… or twice. Great write, Jilly!

Now, that’s a contrarian take on spice! Love how you weave the drama of the disappointing first date with riveting rhymes!

Thanks! It’s funny how the mind works, but I started with the word ‘enspicement’ today at school and let that guide the rest of it.

Abdomis had me rolling right off the bat. “With rippling curls his brains unfurled” gave me hilarious imagery. You make cartoons in my brain!

I’ve often wondered about the phrase “six-pack abs”. They seem to be the opposite of what one would get if one drank many six-packs of beer. I liked the phrase “six-pack abdomis”.

You’ve made me chuckle at 9 o’clock on a Tuesday morning, Jilly, with the ‘six-pack abdomis’ and
the brains unfurling with ‘rippling curls’. And ‘enspicement’ is another word to add to my collection!

Thanks, Kim! I actually started with Enspicement and built the poem around it.

LOVE the title here…and this really made me smile! Thinking of those high school boys I so admired, the captains of the football team….and then you see them at the 50th reunion and….:) Yep. Milk toast 🙂 This was a fun one!
