Jim Harrison: Poet. And writer and gourmand and drinker and lover of nature and dogs and women. The 28 Days of Unreason was born of a love for his poetry and began just a couple of months after his death in 2016. At that time, I was reading his (then) last book of poetry called Songs of Unreason. His lines seemed to set me free to write – what I wanted to write and how I wanted to write.
This article in The Atlantic gives a bit of insight into his philosophy of writing.
He is most well known for Legends of the Fall and the subsequent movie, but he defined himself as a poet. Sometimes, I have to read his poetry to get back to the poet inside of me.
Thank you all for joining in! Everyone is welcome to jump in and write. Simply post your poem along with the Harrison line (with due credit) and then pingback here in the comments. I’ll stop by and read, as will other unreasonable poets! Here is Day 5, taken from his last book, which was published just after his death:
“It is the burden of life to be many ages
without seeing the end of time.”
from Seven in the Woods / Dead Man’s Float
Cheers! ~ Jilly

Wahaha! It was actually a redo – they think it has a touch of infection. Either way, they do sedation, so I’m loopy today. There are worse things 🙂
