Now that your soul has asked all the easy questions
it will eat up your body
for sustenance
Pull up a chair
Unfold your napkin
Don’t deny the fork and knife
At last the feast begins

That is a very strange poem indeed. I’m going to have to go away and live with it for a while, I think. Lots of fractured thoughts – the wedding feast at Cana(?), but also, Hannibal Lecter made a brief appearance…

Once you’ve tackled all the easy stuff… who’s going to take the World Cup, why do baseball players really need to take steroids, why do fools fall in love… then it comes down to the one, truly essential question of your life… and it’s going to take all that is within you. Or something like that. It’s a brilliant write. I may have to come back to it, Jill! But that’s my first read’s analysis… for what it’s worth.

Yes, excellent. Now I really feel like I cheated, this is quite rich. The opening line sets the table and we are feasting.

Well done, and oddly disconcerting too. Truly, I am going to miss this. I have developed some mental muscles with these prompts. Thank you Jill.

When I read this…. it’s like Alice in Wonderland having a serious moment!

The soul devouring the flesh–love it! Writers pour themselves into their work at great expense. This is a fresh way of looking at something that must be done in order to be reborn in words.
