Home Tour Challenge

Taking up Frank Hubeny’s Challenge, I have written a 2nd half for his outstanding poem, Home Tour.  He wrote the first stanza in Portuguese Redondilha Maior meter, so I had to do a bit of research to get a feel for how it works.  As Frank taught us last week, it consists of 7-syllable lines with an emphasis on the final syllable and has its roots in Medieval poetry.  I read about the form, which was its own challenge since most of the sites are in Portuguese and must be translated, and discovered that the meter is usually broken into 3 syllable & 4 syllable groupings, like this:

Let us climb    /   these well worn stairs,  [Frank’s 1st line]
3              /                      4

Once I understood that, I saw the brilliance in Frank’s poem.  Here, then, is the Challenge completed.

Let us climb these well worn stairs,
Light above and peace throughout.
Heart tells mind, “Don’t worry here.
Love will show us all about.”

Let us fill the glass with wine,
Vitis red to glad our hearts
“Tear down walls that don’t align.
Harmony shall not depart.”
