Day 6 of the 28 Days of Unreason

“Her nights are full of the red teeth of death”

from Life / Dead Man’s Float

Welcome to Day Six, my fellow poets.  Eleven poets have participated thus far, which is beyond my quiet little expectation.  I am THRILLED that y’all are finding inspiration in the lines of Jim Harrison. I must admit that sometimes I am baffled by his words but even in that feeling, I am somehow compelled to write.  At times our poems don’t seem to address the line and that can bring out the best writing because it is something that comes from the gut.   You will notice that several of the quotes come from his last published book, Dead Man’s Float from Copper Canyon Press. These poems scrape my teeth and render my bones raw; they are filled with more truth than I can handle, which is why we write!  I also recommend this article with some of those final Harrison poems from Literary Hub.

Everyone is welcome to participate!  Just write a poem based on the current quote, post it on your blog or site, give Harrison the due credit, and then let me know how to find it.  Pingbacks are welcome but have worked sporadically this week, so you can just paste the link into a comment below.  Give yourself a treat and read the other poems, too!  Cheers ~ Jilly!

    1. No worries! I am reading everyone’s work because, a.) I’m driving this bus of insanity, and b.) I’m a teacher and it’s June. (i.e. = time) Catch a few here and there if you can 🙂

      1. I understand. My teacher daughter has been counting down the days for the last few weeks. 🙂
My schedule is my own–but sometimes it amounts to me writing and reading poetry instead of things I get paid for.
