Knockouts in carmine
Fistful of blooms thrown downwind
Shiner’s delight

Author’s Note: Regardless of politics, of leadership, of perceptions at home or abroad, this poet will not bloody the face of this, or any nation, on this blog. I am deeply saddened by what I read that serves to divide. I choose honor; I can only give that example to the rising generations. I choose to rise above. Oh, and the Knockout Rose is my personal favorite 🙂
For Frank J. Tassone’s Haikai Challenge #21 “Rose”
Terrific, huge punch in the first line, sends petals strewn everywhere. But the only reference I can find to Shiner’s delight is for bock beer they make in Texas. Once of my favorites too, but I suspect that wasn’t your intention!

Bahaha! I’m Texas illiterate, and only Wine informed. Think cheek bone, knockout.

Yes, they aren’t really “black eyes” are they, you capture it better as more purple and red. Just assumed though that there was a 2nd level reference, knowing you, LOL!

Well, the bock would certainly ease the pain…

BTW, super-excellent Haiku form rendering, along with being vigorous and non-obvious.

Thanks! Considering the source and form, that is very high praise.

Hard not to want “Black-eyed susans” in here somewhere!

Or since we *don’t* want any such thing, “No black-eyed Susans”.

Jilly, it is indeed refreshing to find a poet who sees the party raucously partying around the cesspool but refuses to jump in. Wonderfully crafted haiku. Wonderful stance.

Thank you, Charley. Mom always told me that if I stoop to the level of those who are less than honorable, I am putting myself at that same level. I try to model her lesson to my best ability, especially for my kiddos at school.
I appreciate you.
