Day 26 – Haiku ~ Longing for Stealth

The line from Songs of Unreason followed by my response poem:

“On some clear nights in the country the stars can exhaust us”

~ Jim Harrison

there is no hiding

salted sky unnumbered stars

consumed by their eyes

  1. I like ‘salted sky’, too. It makes me think of the way stars are sprinkled in the sky. Salt and eyes also make me think there’s tears when looking upon them, which could be overwhelming and exhausting as the quote says. I’m always in awe of your work, Jilly.

      1. Off? Not at all! You just did that reader thing of seeing something that I had not seen in my own writing. Is it subconscious or an accident? Of course, I could say, ‘Yeah, I meant to do that.” Two days!!!! Whoop!

      2. For me, it’s the sign of great poetry, being able to see multiple things upon multiple readings. I have an early start on today’s quote so it’s possible I’ll finish before 4 a.m.
