Thanks, Bev! We watch this adventure in our back yard rather often. Who needs TV?

I envy your ability with this form, Jilly–how well you worked with the rhyme scheme, adding on stanzas, and delivering a well-told poem. We have hawks both here and the desert…and jays. In the desert they devastate the baby ducklings that hatch each spring outside our kitchen window. But, without them, we would be overrun with ducks and their output! Nicely done.

An epic tail, Jilly. And a well-posed photo of the hero. Great writing!

Excellent message/adventure; creative rhyming. I thought I was doing well to write two Lai, but you crushed it with three, while rocking the prompt & extolling the form

Your bird trumped the jays. You made me wonder where he would strike first. I kind of like jays. They scream extra loud when snakes are slithering around

True – once I saw a single jay raid the nest of a pair of hawks and the jay did not come away empty. So I guess turn around is fair play in the bird world. The one thing for certain, everyone hides when the eagle glides by.

🙂 Then we share that! The one in the picture haunts my backyard and we call him Reggie. I took that shot from about 10 feet away. He tolerates me.

I like your length here to create the song. And oh yes….when the hawks and the eagles soar, it is definitely a bravado soar!

It’s hard sometimes to watch nature, the beautiful animals, birds and see their fate in the pecking order. Well written.

Beautiful imagery. Love the photo, too. I opened the back door this morning to a steady downpour and a cardinal flying by at the same time. He landed on the fence but didn’t stay long enough for me to snap a picture.

They do beg to be shot, don’t they? “Look at me, I am beautiful. Take my picture” In fact, I think they even suck in their little red cheeks and look thoughtfully at their watch. Hope your rain ends in time for the weekend 🙂
