Garden Runway

Sitting on the sidewalk to gain a surer view
Honeybees courting posies and a butterfly or two
Three fine gentleman bolted from the greenery
Escaped across the scenery
Ran before the Rebelled meanery

A fourth beruffled fellow
Pulled in his red-throat bellow
Paused beside my sandal to stop and say ‘Well, hello!’

“I am beautiful” said he, with an accent from Paris
So turned the lens upon him, zoomed in close and shot him
Whilst he favored me with poses
There beside the roses

Glossy spreads for high-end mags
Never saw such strut and swag
Sucking in his cheeks
Puckering his leeps

We surely were the envy of all the garden denzy
And as our story endzy we ever shall be friendzy

    1. Thanks Frank! It was a fun moment – he really did just stick around next to my foot and look at me for many minutes. Maybe he thought, ‘If I can take this one, I’ll eat for weeks!’

  1. Love lizards and lizard poems! Especially:

  2. Work it, baby! Love the camera! It’s loving you!

Okay, Jill — what an awesome poem. Classic Silly Jilly! You have a way of turning phrases into fun that draw smiles. This is a poem that asks to be read aloud. Again and again!

  3. By golly, you got your own private fashion show. And lots less crazy looking than that high fashion stuff. And for free they posed as well! I used to bring stale bread to the park as a bribe to get the geese to pose, thank you, a splendid show!
