Only the water is safe

Driving west

into that

low setting

sun

stinging my eyes

wet

turning the corners

raw

Two time zones

away

pieces of

Alberta

lay

scorched lives

traded for bitter

ash

Bonfires quench

the thirst of

compassion demons

dance

until it rises

low in the east

healing the raw

edges
